OpenURL is a linking service in which databases and A&I services are provided with a link to send a query to Alma (or equivalent program).  Patrons will click the link when they cannot find their selected fulltext article, and the query will be sent to Alma.  The patrons will be directed to a specialized service page in PrimoVE, which is documented here: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Primo/Product_Documentation/020Primo_VE/Primo_VE_(English)/050Display_Configuration/015Configuring_the_Services_Page_for_Primo_VE.

The service page looks similar to a normal PrimoVE page but h+as no links across the top bar, which has been colored orange in our implementation to distinguish it from the 'ordinary' PrimoVE interface.  This customization can be maintained via the CSS.

The service PrimoVE page should pass the patrons to a fulltext version of the article they want, assuming a metadata match between the start point, the Alma knowledgebase, and the destination.  Changes in metadata between any 2 of these 3 points can cause the service to fail (such as if one system refers to a title as Proceedings of the Academy and another as Academy, Proceedings, or if one service refers to an issue as V.1 N.1-2 and another as V.1 N.1/2).

Here is the new base URL: (aka Primo VE Services Page)
